LYDIA FRIESEN Lydia slipped quietly from this life into eternal life with Jesus Christ on August 31, 2009 at Bethania Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Susanna (Neufeld) Friesen and her only sibling, Victor Friesen. Her memory is cherished by her sister-in-law, Elsie Friesen; her long time friend, companion and caregiver, Elizabeth Dyck; three nieces and a nephew; numerous cousins and many long-time friends. As a young girl Lydia came with her extended family to Canada from the Mennonite settlements in the southern Ukraine. As refugees from the atrocities and chaos of the years of revolution, they began a new life, settling in the North Kildonan area. Lydia finished her education in Winnipeg and went on to work for Ford of Canada for almost 30 years. She retired in 1977 and spent many years continuing to enjoy her passions for nature, travel, gardening, walking, and the company of many friends. Lydia had committed her life to faith in Jesus Christ as a young girl, was later baptized and joined the North End Mennonite Brethren Church, and then the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church. Her faith and church life were always very important to her. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, R3T 5K9.
